Michigan Authors

Here at Shelby Library we pride ourselves into knowing about Local Authors.  Getting to meet them.  Getting their books and having a Meet and Greet the Author.  It is an absolute plus for us Librarians to be able to share Local Authors with their Patrons.

Shelby Library is from Michigan.  West side of Michigan (trust me, it makes the difference) and we are proud of our heritage here in Michigan.  Michigan is the best state to find Fun, Excitement and Food.  Many people think of Michigan as the Mid-West of America; the one places where you can find produce still growing from the ground and not some Science's Lab!!!!  And they are right.  West Michigan for example is one of the highest produce of Asparagus, Cherries, and of course Corn.  We love growing things.  Detroit has been known for many years as producing Cars and even though many of the Countries across the Ocean, Detroit still has it's hand in Automobiles, Sports (Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Red Wings).  We have fisherman (fisherladies as well) for the greatest Trout, or Large-mouth Bass in the whole Country.  (Speaking from experience of course, LOL)
We also have many Authors in our great state!!!!
We see so many famous author books leaving our Library and are welcomed into your homes and know that they will be treasured.  And we love sharing our favorite authors to others as well.  We also like to share, or point out, that even a little town like Shelby (on the West of the State of Michigan) has there very own authors that many people just don't know about.  And that is our job.  To point them out to you and make sure that you are aware that there is not only Patterson; Cussler; or Kingsbury famous authors from other states.  But authors from your own backyard.
  
We also like to make things easy for people to find the answers easy enough so we Librarians LOVE making posters!!!  Posters are easy to find, easy to read and you can get a lot of information on one poster.  So for all you Michiganders out there that love to read books and would like to start reading authors from your own great State, here is our Poster of Michigan Authors just for you :) :) :)

Here at the Shelby Library we love to help out.  Anything the public needs, we try our best to help them out. Now I'm not saying that we work miracles or anything, but if we can't find the answers we try to help you find someone who can!! Many of the times we would be getting patrons to come in that just needs to find a business.  Whether it be the businesses phone number, fax number or just point to where the building is!!  Many patrons heard a book on the radio and would love to read it, but just can't remember the title nor the author.  But they remember the radio station!!  We also get some people that come in and say I picked up this book not realizing it was part of the series.  Do you know the titles of the others and do you have them?  Or they saw a book on the book stand somewhere and want to read it but just can't remember the title nor the author, nor what it's all about but knows for sure, for sure that the cover of the book was Blue!   Those are jus

Happy New Year, Monkey

I know this is long overdue but.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! It has been very busy at the Library trying to get back at the pace of actually working.  Checking on book overdue, getting back into the habit of checking in and out books, helping people finding books, (remembering where everything is) and of course picking up that pesky habit of actually waking up and getting out of bed. :) The Library had no trouble picking up the pace though.  People coming in after the holidays looking for new books to check out; needing help with their NEW Nooks, Kindles and iPads that they got for Christmas; faxing, making copies for their work.  Or just people need to check their emails.  Just getting back in the habit of day to day lives.  Seeing familiar faces, talking about what we did on our Christmas/New Years vacation, who did we see.  And then seeing new faces just dropping by, on their way home but need a print of their plane tickets.   Now it is starting be like any other day so I have take
