Happy Halloween!

Image
" This is Halloween, this is Halloween Halloween!  Halloween!  Halloween!  Halloween!!!!! Happy Halloween everyone!  A time of dressing up, getting candy from strangers and scaring people out of their skin!!!!!  Also pranks are cool too, like the last post I posted.  Now I'm thinking of new things to fright them all with for next year so any ideas out there in the world please share them. The Librarians are all excited to take part in the role of dressing up!!!  We have Snow White, Vanellope von Schweetz (from Wreck It Ralph), Buzzlighter, Ariel, Queen of Hearts, and a Minion from Despicable Me.  Definitely showing our inner child here!!!!! We are certainly a wild bunch!!!!  We know how to have fun and love it when people laugh with us (or at us sometimes) but we keep smiling and loving every part of it.   We are even cool enough for a selfie:

Halloween Trick or Treat? I choose Trick!!!!

So Halloween is tomorrow.  Everyone is getting so excited.  Dressing up as your hero; for laughs; to bring out the inner child in you; or just to dress funky and get away with it is the greatest thing about Halloween.  You get your Batman's, Superman's, Jokers, Princesses, Captain Jack Sparrow, Buzz Lightyear's.  Some dress up as a hero:  Firefighter, Police Officer, Military, Nurse.  Some dress up to let our their inner self that they never could show on a day to day bases. All for some candy.  The "Treat" part of Halloween I guess. That's right, we let our inner child so we can go door to door and take candy from people.  Some are complete strangers, some we know our whole lives.  And they give the candy to us!!!!!  Now if we went there on any other night and rang their doorbell to take the candy, they would probably call the police!  But's it's all for fun. Fun. That is until someone does the other part of Halloween..."Trick". No

A Bit of Happiness

Image
Every librarian has it's own little quirks, it's own little happiness in one's own library.  For some it's getting new books.  Others, getting new computers.  Sometimes for some, it's when the children that was causing all the trouble now has a car and doesn't come into the library anymore!!!! For our library, many of the librarians are getting excited.  Why are we getting excited?  We are always getting books (either we pay for them, patrons donate money to get these new books, or patrons donate new books to us) so it can't be that. We still have kids (everyone one of them are little dears (LOL)) coming and going.  So it's not that. For us (at the moment) is.....NEW SHELVES!!!!!!!! That's right folks.  The Shelby Area District Library has gotten new shelves and every Librarians feels like they just won the lottery! The town's Optimist Club donate a chunk of money for the Young Adult section and we couldn't be more excited!!!

Bats Bats Bats!!!!!!!!!

Image
Bats have taken over the Library!!!!!!  Quick call the Ghostbusters!!!!! Had to throw in a little fun there for you.  When you bring back your books to the library, fill out your name on one of these bats and we will hang them in the library!!!  Just trying to decorate the library in a Halloweenish feeling but with your help :)

Book Tasting Review

The Year of Pleasures By: Elizabeth Berg Betta Nolan wants to move. Everyone advises her to think otherwise.  "It's not time yet."  "Let yourself get healed first, before you make any big decisions." Betta Nolan always did things her way and if not her husbands way.  But her husband is dead.  Passed away only a few months ago from Cancer and it still feels like it was yesterday when she was waking him up for breakfast.  A couple so devoted to each other that they never once looked outside of their little bubble to see what everyone else was doing, nor engaging with them.  So now Betta is alone.  No friends, no family to speak of and now no husband to hold her.  Is she going to move? Heck yea she is.  She may be getting up there in the age bracket but she can still make up her mind on things. When she travels to a small town outside of Chicago and buys a house she doesn't know how much the new little town, with it's opening arms neighbor

Book Club Answer

Image
So a few weeks ago I mentioned that we were going to have a Book Club meeting about the book Fatal Crossing.  The meeting turned out great!  We had Coffee brewing (a very long time, come to mention it), the muffins were amazing (I waited towards the end and they were very delicious) and had people showing up and WANTING to discuss the book with us!!!  It was great :) :)  Only for the part that only Two people showed, it was a very nice meeting.  The two folks that showed are part of another book group so that was actually perfect because in the end us Librarians asked them what else should we have or bring to our book club.  They were very helpful in that department. We did decide on our club name.  We are now called: There is a lot you can do with the title being "Book Tasting".  For instance this picture:   We certainly had fun making this photo.  We couldn't stop laughing!!  Trying to devour books like you would pasta.  We actually saw this idea

The Harbinger By: Jonathan Cahn Thirteen years. It has been thirteen years since the World Trade Towers went down. A time where everything just stopped. For we kept thinking who? Who on the face of the Earth wants to hurt America? And how do we protect ourselves so that this tragedy never happens again on our soil, foreign and domestic. When it was my turn for the Recommended Reading and I saw that it falls on September 11 I knew I had to read a book that deals with 9/11. But that was a hard decision. There are so many books, fiction AND non-fiction that explains, proof of why and who, or guesses what comes next. It's amazing to see so many people have their own thoughts or facts on why 9/11 happened. And so many have made guesses on what the future NOW holds. Even though it's been thirteen years, the tragedy that took place on 9/11 still affects so many people. So which book could I use for this day, sort of a reminder what happened so we will never forget? Ac

Library Book Club

We love getting suggestions from our Patrons.  We are always improving in the things that we do and we want to be able to make sure that those items is what the public wants.  And one of the suggestions that someone asked was that the Library come up with Book Club.  Now keep in mind there are plenty of other book clubs out there but someone thought it would bring in more people if there was a Book Club in ONE place and that place being the Library.  We Librarians thought it over and said this would be a wonderful idea and it would generate new people to come see our Library. Our first meeting is going to be this Saturday September 6, 10 in the morning.  Yikes...me myself is not a morning person but it for the good of the people, I will be up, freshened up and ready to lead a discussion with my co-worker/boss.  (I have to say this she reads these posts sometimes!!)   But it's going to be a good Book Club.  Mostly because we Librarians have ways of getting more book

The Maze Runner ( Maze Runner #1) By: James Dashner Who are you? What are you? Where are you? When did this happen? And of course the worst question of all...... Why are you here? All the five W questions go through Thomas's head. The worst part is that he can't answer any of them. All except the first. Who are you? Why his name is Thomas. Beyond that....he can't remember anything else. All he knows is what's in front of him which right now is nothing. Just darkness.  Till doors mechanically open all by themselves above his head does he "see the light". He also hears voices. Not the kind in his head, no real actually voices. He finds out that they belong to boys. About his age and the same predicament he is in. Come the same way, and can't remember who they besides their name, and why they are here. Here you may ask? Why Here, is The Glade. A place where the boys have called Home. A place where they have r

Saturday Times

Image
It's a Saturday. Finally the Weekend can fully start now.  People can sleep in...don't have to worry about going to work...don't have to make people happy.  For Saturdays usually make just ONE person happy.....YOU!!! Then there are those who have to work in the morning.  Maybe a few hours, maybe the whole day.  They are the ones who miss out on the gorgeous wondrous day out at the beach, out at the park with the whole family.   I am one of those schmucks that got the wonderful chance of working on a Saturday morning.  Now for my job it's only 4 hours of working but that's 4 hours of smiling, getting out of my comfy rolling chair to help someone, or answer phones.  I know most people have to work harder jobs, but when it's on a Saturday, EVERYONE has a hard job to do.   So what does a body do instead of watching the hours tick by?  (Great now I have that song from Frozen stuck in my head!!!.....my mind is SOOO weird.)  Some that have to sit next

E-Books Threatening Libraries? Think Again!!!

E-Books. E-Books have soared higher than anyone could have imagined.  People are buying Kindles, Nooks, and/or Ipads JUST to receive an E-Book.  Being able to receive as many books as you would like, renting them like movies from Netflix taking them wherever you want to go and it doesn't take much room in your baggage.  Can connect real easy to any Wi-Fi hotspot and download an E-Book just like THAT!!! Many people with a tablet always seems to feel that they have to ask us Librarians this question:  Does the Libraries feel threatened by E-Books? If you think about it, yea Libraries should feel threatened.  Many people don't really realize that when folks are reading from their Tablets, they feel that they don't need to come to the library anymore.  They have everything that they need right there.  They can get a book much faster nowadays with this Pre-order deals.  They can get gift-cards just for E-Books and it's in a smaller package.  And if they have Wi-Fi, they

Dorothy Must Die  By: Danielle Paige Great book. Very unique, and I like the main character. OZ is definitely much creepier than it is in the movie, and that's a good thing - it really makes the book stand out, especially in this trend of writers rehashing old and familiar tales. This is much better than the book I read about a re-telling of Peter Pan and Wendy in today's time. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Books 1 & 2

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Book 1) By: Rick Riordan We all have a destiny. We were put here on this Earth for a purpose. Now sometimes we might not know what that purpose is until it's staring us right in the face. Other times, there are prophecies that give you a heads up on what's going on. Other times, nada! Percy Jackson has a purpose. He is meant to do great things. Or he is here to destroy the world. And he's only 12 years old. But see, Percy Jackson is not your average 12 year old. He has dyslexia, a lot of ADHD, and always seems to find himself in trouble. He has never met his father before, and doesn't really know what to make of himself. Until his best friend turns out to be a Satyr who protects Half-Bloods and brings them to Camp where they will be safe from monsters. And these Monsters are straight out of the Greek Mythology. For you see, Half-Bloods are also called Demi-Gods: Half-Human, and Half-God. And in th
